Ok, ever team seems to be doing some kind of design our uniform for us contest. This is cool to see but I have some real big issues with these contest. No, I do not care that they are taking jobs away from people or any of that crap. I think that designers and brands should wise up and start putting some real work in because many of these fan submissions are better than what the so called experts come up with especially you Adidas.

The problem I have with these contest is well they are lacking. You have Mark Cuban asking for you to do it for free(which is bullshit you are worth a billion with a B). You now have the Fire making you check google maps to see if you are close enough to enter the contest.

If you are going to have a contest you need to have a contest. The contest should be open to anyone. You are trying to get the best design? So, why not let everyone play. Second, you need to have a prize. The Fire if you are close enough to enter you get a free flight, some tickets, and some cash to spend at Adidas. That is ok but come on you can do better.

Prizes: A prize package should include several things in my book. First of all a pair of seasons tickets to the winner for life, Airline tickets to an away game or a home game if you live outside the region, cash to spend in the team store and a really big swag package from the brand that gets to sell your design, you should prob get the other uniforms your team wears customized with your name and number. This should be like the base set of prizes a team/brand should be forced to give you.

How about 5% of sales in the first year, a luxury box, championship tickets, a 10 day contract where you get in the game in scrub time.

Who can play: Anyone, its pretty simple.

What does the uni have to look like: I get that a team has to include certain things because they have contracts but lets not just use a template with the same old crap design and tell the kids color inside the lines this is directed at you Adidas/Fire.  Why does every single uniform have to a ton of stripes on it? Please answer that question.

Who gets to pick the winners: The fans should get to pick, but they should also get to pick the finalist. I hate when teams pick the five finalist and they well suck. They pick the five that are the safest or hell maybe even designed by them already and closely resemble those.

Length of contest: Give us a month or more

Other things I would like to see: Pick a color for the uni. It sucks if you are the designer and you go with blue and see all the finalist are yellow. Tell us ahead of time if you want to go in one direction.
