Honoring Army Ranger Pat Tillman On Field The Proper Way

TILLMAN 6

I posted several designs for a Pat Tillman Tribute Decal/Patch for the 10 year anniversary of his passing. Those two posts got 40-50 retweets which is shocking since most cat videos get 60. I sent my post with ideas to my cousin Sam who is stationed over in Germany. He told me to write another post and tell everyone what I told him.

April 22, 2014 marked the 10 year anniversary of the death of Pat  Tillman. The act of patriotism that Tillman showed leaving his NFL career to become an Army Ranger is something that no one should ever forget. Tillman should have a statue at every NFL stadium as far as I am concerned. (He has one in Arizona FYI)

I am guessing that for the 10 year anniversary of Tillman’s death the Arizona Cardinals and Arizona State would both have some kind of helmet decal honoring   this anniversary. I personally dislike the way that sports teams try to honor a fallen teammate or owner. The traditional logo/sticker is a black circle with the persons number or initials inside the circle in white. I would like to a honor logo/sticker that has a little more thought put into it. My thought is that if someone is important enough to honor shouldn’t we do something more fitting of that honor? The black sticker takes all of two seconds to make. We spend millions of dollars designing uniforms, shirts, hats, etc.. to sell but to honor someone a black circle with a white letter is just fine. Well that is bullshit in my book and just pisses me off. Since I design stuff. I came up with a few version of a decal/patch.

These designs cost basically nothing to make. The average helmet decal runs about 10-20 bucks a pair for the large main decal. I know this because I design football helmets. That is retail FYI. I will give my Pat Tillman Tribute decal to anyone wanting to wear it so there goes that cost. I am sure there is a decal company out there that will pony up the cash to make the decals that just leaves the Arizona Cardinals and NFL to OK it. I have personally tweeted the Cardinals and their Coach, the Arizona State Coach with no reply. I have also tweeted the NFL and Commissioner  Goodell  offering my design. They too have not replied. I tweeted the Arizona Super Bowl Committee the idea of adding the logo to the field for the Pro Bowl and Super Bowl. They fav’d my tweet and told me that the NFL would have to approve anything that went on the field.

The only person to get back to me was Jake Plummer a former college teammate of Pat Tillman & NFL QB.

I wanted to have all 3 badges Cardinals, ASU, & Army Rangers plus the 10 and Tillman in the logo. Below is my Fav version. tillman 7tillman tribute helmet

I really like the idea of using the military name badge on this logo. I played around with a couple different versions of the 10 and added some yellow for ASU in a couple but the above logo is the best in my mind. The logo uses a Ranger badge I pulled from a military badge site. If it is not correct please let me know. I replaced the sides with both his college and pro team logos off to each side. The camo 10 represents the 10th Anniversary and finally I made a military name badge like he would have worn to rest below the logo. The 40 and 42 are the numbers he wore on the field. The logo as a whole represents all 3 of Pat Tillman’s teams. I really think that all NFL teams should wear the sticker on their helmet the week ASU and the Cards wear it as the main logo if that ever happens. All season would be better but I don’t know if you can get that to happen. I am guessing a full decal on all teams would never be OK’s but a back logo like this shouldn’t be a problem for other teams back of helmet 2 back of helmet

I would also like to see all of the service academies wear this sticker on their helmet too. If the Cardinals, ASU, any NFL team, any service school, or any school for that matter wants to use my logo creation they can free of charge just contact sollars85@gmail.com

The Total cost to make this happen if the Arizona Cardinals Only wear the decal and have to pay the top end price of $20 per set a team of 53 is only $1,060. I know that NFL teams never pay full retail they pay more like material cost plus a little so lets say it is $10 a pair that $530 for a pair. If the Cardinals decide not use the digital camo team logo that price drops to $265 to honor Pat Tillman doesn’t sound like a number a Billion Dollar company would flinch at if they wanted to do it.

Ok, the Cardinals wise up say we want to do it but can’t. Why can’t you? The NFL says we can’t. What will make the NFL say yes you can? Public support that is where you come in. Tell the Cardinals, Arizona State and the NFL you want to honor a true American Hero on the 10 year Anniversary of his passing defending our freedom. We should honor all fallen troops but honoring Pat Tillman I believe honors every solider that has fallen because we all know Pat Tillman did not think of himself but was a team player thinking of everyone else first in everything he did in his life. His choice to give up the fame and money of the NFL to become a Ranger is something everyone should be reminded of this year 10 year late.

Let the NFL & the Cardinals know you want this to happen. Stop tweeting out cat videos and retweet this.

Round Two NFL Draft

NFL Mock Draft & Helmet Redesign Round 1

I decided to combine everyones two favorite things this time of year mock drafts and helmet concepts. I have no mock draft credit to my name but it seemed like fun. Now before you start yelling that the Steelers, Packers, and etc… should never change their look I did multiple concepts for each team. I only posted one per team per round but I messed with everyones tradition so reach up and unbunch. Round 2 designs are different than the first round. If you want to see more concepts click the name of the team by the pick it will take you to the team concepts page.

Ok, since it seems like most of you would rather say something nasty before bother to click a link. There are more than one helmet for each team click the team name link to see all the teams concepts. Then and only then do you get to bitch. You look stupid when you say I should have done something that is there. Burn that extra half calorie click the link.

Round 2 the helmets are different but I don’t know if will fill the mock part out but you people only look at the pictures so guess it works.

I am going to do this one with no trades and then a pick with trades so there will be two picks with per spot FYI

Charles Sollars Concepts @charlessollars

1. Houston Texans

Texans Clowney

Jadeveon Clowney, DE/OLB, South Carolina (6-6/266)

I am putting Clowney here because everyone is putting him here, but it would not shock me if the Texans are making the pick for someone else. I just don’t see the Texans taking and keeping Clowney if someone throws a good offer on the table. Falcons, Browns, 49ers, Jags, Raiders are all teams I think could be in play for a trade here. I think the 49ers could be the big shocker of the draft trading Aldon Smith and his problem along with a handful of pics to move up to the number 1 spot. It is a long shot but I could see it happening on Thursday shocking everyone. The only real hurdle is the 49ers not having a higher 1st round pick but making this trade would be the same as taking Clowney and waiting to pick a QB at 33.

The other scenario is the 49ers and Texans make this trade and the Texans turn around and trade some of those picks for Mallett. In this scenario the Texans come out of the draft with Aldon Smith, Ryan Mallett, and some extra picks.

1. With Trade Atlanta Falcons

atl clowney 6

Jadeveon Clowney, DE/OLB, South Carolina (6-6/266)

Atlanta is the more likely trade partner moving up from 6. The Falcons could stay at 6 beefing up the O-line but getting Clowney is the sexy move so why not do it.

Charles Sollars Concepts @charlessollars

2. St. Louis Rams

Greg Robinson, OT, Auburn (6-5/332)

The Rams need to protect Bradford if they are keeping him. I also wouldn’t be shocked if the Rams trade back with a team wanting Sammy Watkins. A trade that I think could get the draft all mixed up is the Browns trading up with the Rams to the 2 spot trading both of their first round pics and taking on the contract of Sam Bradford. I am sure there would have to be some late round picks swapped between the two as well.

The other crazy trade idea is that the 49ers package a bunch of their 11 picks to get an elite wr in Watkins. I really like the idea of the 49ers cashing in their piggy bank of picks for a top 5 pick.

With Trade 2. Cleveland Browns Sammy Watkins, WR, Clemson (6-1/211) plus Sam bradford

Browns get the WR they want and add Bradford for a year to see if he get his career back on track. The Browns decide to use cap space and not future picks to move with from 4. This trade fixes the QB situation for this season and guarantees them the WR they want to pair with Josh Morgan.

Charles Sollars Concepts @charlessollars

3. Jacksonville Jaguars Khalil Mack, OLB, Buffalo (6-3/251)

Everyone has the Jags taking Mack. I think it doesn’t matter who they take until they fix the QB situation which they seems to refuse to do every single year. So, since the Jags flub up the draft most years I am not spending too much time on them they are an Wild Card.

With trades 3. Jaguars  Greg Robinson, OT, Auburn (6-5/332)

Jags add to the O-line providing whoever ends up at QB the protection that has been lacking for the last couple of seasons.

Charles Sollars Concepts @charlessollars

4. Cleveland Browns Sammy Watkins, WR, Clemson (6-1/211)

Browns add another weapon and hope that a QB falls to them with the their second pick  in the 1st or their pick on day two.

With trades 4. Rams Johnny Manziel, QB, Texas A&M (6-0/207)

The Rams now with a hole at QB after including Bradford in the trade back take Manziel fearing that he will be gone at 13. Johnny Manziel in St. Louis is just a fun idea. Paired with speedy WR’s and RB’s the fastest show on turf is back.

Charles Sollars Concepts @charlessollars

5. Oakland Raiders Taylor Lewan, OT, Michigan (6-7/309)

With trades 5. Raiders Khalil Mack, OLB, Buffalo (6-3/251)

The Raiders have added a bunch of old guys in free agency but they will be picking the best player on the board because they holes all over the place.

Charles Sollars Concepts @charlessollars

6. Atlanta Falcons Jake Matthews, OT, Texas A&M (6-5/308)

Protect Matt hand in the card if they stay at 6 it is that simple

With trades 6. Houston Texans Blake Bortles, QB, Central Florida (6-5/232)

Texans trade back to 6 pick up a ton of picks and still get the QB they need and wanted without looking like they reached. Houston needs a QB if they pick one I think it will be Bortles. I like trading for Mallett better than Bortles this high.

bucs ship helmet

7. Tampa Bay Buccaneers Johnny Manziel, QB, Texas A&M (6-0/207)

Bucs need a QB and a reason to watch Johnny Football gives them both.

With trades 7. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Mike Evans, WR, Texas A&M (6-5/231)

Charles Sollars Concepts @charlessollars

8. Minnesota Vikings Blake Bortles, QB, Central Florida (6-5/232)

The Vikings panic again and pick Blake leaving them to Ponder what they will do at QB.

With trades 8. Minnesota Vikings Aaron Donald, DT, Pittsburgh (6-1/285)

With trades 12. New York Giants Justin Gilbert, CB, Oklahoma State (6-0/202)

The pick here has to be on defense I would think

Charles Sollars Concepts @charlessollars

13. St. Louis Rams Justin Gilbert, CB, Oklahoma State (6-0/202)

With trades 13. St. Louis Rams Hasean (Ha-Ha) Clinton-Dix, S, Alabama (6-1/208)

The Rams get deeper in the defensive backfield with either pick. They have a very good D-line with either pick it increases they chances that the pass rush can get to the QB. Charles Sollars Concepts @charlessollars

14. Chicago Bears Hasean Clinton-Dix, S, Alabama (6-1/208)

With trades 14. Chicago Bears C.J. Mosley, LB, Alabama (6-2/234)

The Bears do D because they are getting old on that side of the ball.

17. Baltimore Ravens Zack Martin, OL, Notre Dame (6-4/308)

With trades 17. Baltimore Ravens Zack Martin, OL, Notre Dame (6-4/308)

19. Miami Dolphins Eric Ebron, TE, North Carolina (6-4/250)

With trades 19. Miami Dolphins Marqise Lee, WR, USC (6-0/192)

Dolphins need OL and another weapon on offense. Ebron is the pick because he is still on the board.

With trades 20. Arizona Cardinals Calvin Pryor, S, Louisville (5-11/207)

Arizona could go QB here because Carson is old. I think they wait until the 2nd or 3rd since they were actually a decent team last year.

chiefs wallpaper 12Charles Sollars Concepts @charlessollarsCharles Sollars Concepts @charlessollars

You get three KC helmets because that is my team. The Chiefs trading back from 23 is a possibility especially depending on the QB movement. In this mock with both Bortles and Johnny off the board I don’t see a trade here

23. Kansas City Chiefs Morgan Moses, OT, Virginia (6-6/314)

Chiefs lost a ton of O-line help and with the top tier WR off the board they go OT.  The Chiefs could also do DE to pair with Hali at the same time freeing up Houston to roam and rush. I am hoping one of the top CB’s or Pryor fall because I am tired of seeing wideouts kill the secondary.

With trades 23. Kansas City Chiefs Cody Latimer, WR, Indiana (6-2/215)

Thinking Of Doing A NFL Rebrand What Do You Think

Unknown-1

If you are like me you can’t wait until the draft happens and need something to keep you entertained between baseball games and mock draft updates. I have been every busy doing paid work but people keep asking me to do a version of their favorite team. So, I am thinking about doing a full NFL rebrand between the college concepts that have already been comisioned. I know other people have done this but eh whatever.

I think that there needs to be some rules before this task is started. The NFL does have some rules and I will follow these for the first round of designs. The biggest rule is the new one helmet rule.

I will make a home, away, alt, and throwback or faux back for each team. I will make 3 helmets for each team following this new rule by keeping the same base color. I will do this for all teams even if I do not think they need to change their helmets.

So, before you start yelling let me agree with you that the Chiefs, Steelers, Browns, and a few others teams need to stay with their current helmets. I still will make two other versions of a helmet for these teams just for fun.

Some teams I will redo/tweak their logo myself, some I will use the current logo, and others I will use cool logos I stumble across online.

I will probably start by posting helmets for each division and then move onto the full uniforms.

I am also thinking about doing some future/fantasy teams like what a new Redskins team name might look like, a Toronto Bills, London Jags, etc…

Lastly I will post some ideas of some stuff that doesn’t meet the new uniform rules but would be cool to do.

Let me know what you want to see your team look like if they rebranded. If I like the idea I might run with it. If you think I should do this let me know
